On July 13th, our regular monthly meeting will feature Scott Honaker, N7SS. Scott is a well loved fixture within the PNW VHF ham radio community. He is a founding member of the Microhams radio club, the Pacific Northwest VHF Society, and is a current vice-chair of the Western Washington Amateur Relay Association (WWARA) which coordinates repeaters and spectrum issues. Scott is a very active member of Snohomish County RACES (now Snohomish ACS) and is the current Radio Officer and works with the Snohomish Department of Emergency Management as Communications Coordinator dealing with communications and IT issues.
Scott’s presentation will cover how the more passive threat of computer viruses have given way to more aggressive attacks of ransomware and compromises of personal data. These threats have become more common, more damaging and harder to defend against. With increasing amounts of amateur radio equipment automated and Internet connected, it’s clearly a risk for all of us. We’ll talk about how to identify risks and mitigate them.
The meeting will start officially at 6:30pm with the presentation to begin at 7:00pm via Zoom. See you there!
