June 2022 Meeting

By | June 7, 2022

Please join us June 14 at 6:30PM Pacific via Zoom for a presentation on the 6 meter “magic band by Ken Neubeck, WB2AMU. An informal group begins to assemble around 6PM, the meeting starts with club business and announcements between 6:30 and 7PM and the presentation will start at the top of the hour.

A lifelong resident of Long Island, NY, Ken was first licensed as WN2AMU in 1971, enjoying contesting along the way.

In 1990, Ken started to explore the 6 meter band with a Swan 250 radio 6 meter transceiver and was shocked to discover long-range contacts could be made on the band via sporadic-E  and F2 propagation, which is why it is called the “magic band”.  Over 25 years Ken kept a daily log on what he observed on 6 meters.  In 1994, Ken wrote the definitive book on the 6 meters band, SIX METERS, A GUIDE TO THE MAGIC BAND, published by Worldradio. This book has subsequently been released for three more editions, with the fourth and last edition printed in 2008.

Ken has given many talks on 6 meters through the years, with the focus on the different propagation modes that appear on the band.  He has spoken about 6 meters at Dayton, Boxboro and Pacificon.
