Meeting Minutes – April 30, 2024 (plus May 9, 16, 23, 2024)

  1. Meeting called to order at 7:06 PM by Rob N7QT.  In attendance were Rob N7QT; Adam K7EDX; Dennis K7DSE; Tom NU7J; Jack N7JP; Rusty W6OAT; Justin K5EM; Robin WA7CPA; Marv K7IU
  2.  Review/Approve Minutes: Approved March 26, 2024 board meeting minutes, with edit to correct the date of membership dues increase to be January, 2025.
  3. Correspondence:  3 new member applications, 2 letters concerning change of insurer.  Club insurance expires on July 6, 2024, and the existing insurer is no longer offering this type of insurance. The letter recommends switching to a particular insurer.  Dennis K7DSE to follow up and take necessary action (applying for and securing new coverage).
  4. Treasurer Report: Approved previous Treasurer report.    The report provided by Dennis K7DSE as of Apr 29, 2024 reported a total balance in treasury of $17,241.15. 
  5. Membership report: 159 active members.  Three new members applications: W2FV, KK7LHO, AI7F
  6. Old Business
    • PNW DX Convention Planning:
      • The Convention website is now accepting reservations.
      • Hotel: As of April 30, 23 rooms have been reserved for both Friday and Saturday. 75 rooms have been set aside at a special discount price.
      • Adam reported that the Convention has now been sanctioned as an official ARRL event.
      • Several speakers have been lined up for the convention, including a real time, remote presentation from an active dxpedition on Jarvis Island.  Discussed order of presentations and other details. Discussed adding POTA presentations in order to attract more POTA ops.
      • A follow-up meeting will be planned next week to continue planning the convention. 
      • Cont’d PNW Convention Planning Discussion on May 9, 16, 23:
      • Adam and Rob are coordinating with SteppIR, DX Engineering, Elecraft, Icom and others to solicit the donation of prizes. Rich or Rusty to coordinate with hotel to clarify whether there would be a charge for setting up the exhibit rooms to allow for additional presentations.
      • A zoom call will be scheduled for May 16, May 23, to continue coordinating the convention.   
    • W7OM Club Call Sign Assignment – Rod W7OM (SK) was one of the original founders of WWDXC.  There is a desire to preserve the W7OM call sign as a club call.  Adam and Justin to investigate process with help from K7SS.    
    • Purchase of WWDXC banner: Adam to investigate cost of purchasing WWDXC banner for future dxpeditions by club members.
  7. New Business
    1. May 14 Club meeting presentation topic:  Sailing Trips and Dxpeditions to Commonwealth of Northern Marianas Islands; by BJ, WA7WJR
    1. Discussed purchase of WRTC tent sponsorship, in memory of Rod, W7OM and possibly other SKs including N7TT. The cost is approximately $1500.  Discussed taking up a during the convention, and soliciting donations from the club.  Rusty to send email to groups.io to request donations.   
  8. Meeting adjourned at 8:40 PM.
