March 2025 Zoom Meeting

By | March 5, 2025

Our next Zoom Club meeting is Tuesday, March 11th.  Happy hour starts around 6:00pm, the general meeting at 6:30pm, and the program no later than 7:00pm.

“Dad when can we go on a DXpedition?” Those eight seemingly simple words would start a year long quest that took us, together with 16 other folks we had never met, half way around the world to play radio on a remote West African island. This talk tells the story of that adventure..

Come hear Robin W7YED and Angus KJ7KOJ Alexander share about their part of the S9Z Sao Tome & Principe expedition.

Angus (KJ7KOJ) was first licensed in 2013 at age 12, he earned his General a year later at 13 and it was then that his love of DXing and DX chasing started. He upgraded to Extra at 16 and has broadened his experience making contacts on satellite, EME and with the ISS crew.  Angus is a highly competent operator and veteran of several SSB and FT8 contests often placing in the top 10 in the youth category. He has activated over 70 Parks for the POTA program across 4 countries (VE, TF, GM). Now 17 and a Junior in high school, his current DXCC totals are 287/257 with DXCC on 5 bands. Most recently he has been a remote operator on the N5J (Jarvis), 3D2Y (Rotuma) and currently holds a 3D2KOJ call. S9Z was his first in-person DXpedition.

Robin (W7YED) was first licensed as G6HLG at age 14. Shortly after moving to Scotland, he gained the call GM4YED which he still holds. After taking a break from radio to attend University in Edinburgh, start a career and move continents he re-entered the radio world in the late 90’s. Since then he has been very radio active, chasing DX and licensing his family.  Robin recently retired from the tech world after a successful 30+ year career in a variety of software engineering leadership roles. There are very few aspects of the radio hobby that Robin hasn’t pursued in his 43 years holding a license. DXpeditioning however was new and S9Z was his first!
