October 2026 ZOOM Meeting

By | September 23, 2026

Our next ZOOM Club meeting is Tuesday, October 13th.  Happy hour starts around 6:00pm, the general meeting at 6:30 pm, and the program at 7:00pm.

Our speaker this month is Stu Phillips, K6TU.

Stu will present on TERA – Terrain Evaluations for Radio Applications, a third-generation tool following in the footsteps of Dean Straw’s (N6BV, now SK) HFTA and Brian Beezley’s (K6STI) TA, to examine the impact of terrain on HF Antenna Performance.

Stu’s presentation explores:

  • How terrain affects your antenna performance.
  • Why this matters to the DX you can work (or miss!)
  • How to determine whether raising or lowering your antenna might improve station performance
  • Considerations for site selection
  • Live demonstration of TERA on K6TU.NET and how to register for free access

Stu has provided the K6TU.NET website since 2012 with tools to explore propagation for contesters & DX’er.  His site has provided a terrain profiling service for use with HFTA since 2015 and now provides TERA as the next generation, ground truth, tool to evaluate terrain impacts on horizontal and vertical antennas.

Originally from the UK, Stu has been licensed since 1973 and active in both DX’ing and contesting.  Located in Woodside, California, he has helped over 100 DX expeditions plan with propagation predictions and site/antenna selection.  His career has spanned almost 20 years of operating experience including heading software development for Cisco System, and now almost 30 years in Private Equity where he is actively involved in helping software companies grow.

TERA is his latest ham radio focused software development.
